Drew is an American actress, author, director, model and producer. In a new book titled Wildflower, Barrymore, 40, has written a collection of autobiographical essays that reflect on her life – from growing up in Hollywood in the famed Barrymore family to becoming a wife and mom to two daughters.
Drew founded her own production company, Flower Films. And more recently her own cosmetics company, Flower. As a cosmetics mogul she is intensely involved in every aspect of her company and how it allows her to live a more normal life than in the movie industry. She says, “….I love the beauty business, because even on a workday I can wake up with my kids, go to work, come home, bedtime—there’s a normal life there. And it’s exciting when you have to go on a business trip, as opposed to a film where you’re gone for months. I can’t do that right now. As you add more onto your plate, particularly family, things have to fall off, or you won’t be a good parent.”
Drew travelled to Kenya with the World Food Programme. As a WFP Ambassador Against Hunger, she wanted to come back to the country she had grown to love years earlier and see how she could help change the lives of women and children. In 2008, Drew announced on The Oprah Winfrey Show that she was donating a whopping $1 Million to the World Food Programme to help feed children in Africa. She has worked with the charity since 2005 and has visited Kenya twice to see the work that goes into the programme. Drew is also a known ambassador of several other charities including UNICEF and Red Cross.
As a women’s advocate, Drew says, “”I love women who have fought to the change the world and made a difference. I want to be one of them myself”.
