Stella McCartney designed the evening gown for Meghan Markle for her wedding reception. She also dressed Amal Clooney and Oprah Winfrey and Doria Ragland, the mother of the bride. Stella says, ““I am so proud and honored to have been chosen by the Duchess of Sussex to make her evening gown and represent British design. It has truly been one of the most humbling moments of my career and I am so proud of all the team on this stunning sunny royal day.”
Stella speaks about her mission as a fashion designer, “My first job is to be a Fashion designer. My first job is to make desirable, luxurious, beautiful clothing for women to want to buy. But I will always take the opportunity to use a beautiful organic fabric. I obviously don’t use any animals which has a huge impact on the planet. My first decision is always based on: can I do this in a more environmental way without sacrificing design, if I can; then there is no reason not to.
Everything in my store and every single garment and accessory that you see is cruelty free, in the sense that no animal has died to make anything in here. A lot of people out there don’t want products that an animal has had to die for.”
Among her many awards, Stella was awarded the Women’s Leadership Award by Lincoln Center Corporate Fund in New York.
