Vanessa is an experienced educator in the field of balance and fall prevention as well as being a professional dancer at the age of 71 with 40 years of physical training. She is the creator, director and producer of the Building Better Balance program, a series of 4 DVDs that help seniors improve their balance while learning how to prevent specific kinds of falls.
Vanessa performs at festivals and senior residences and nursing homes. She says, “I find that each year I get stronger and more flexible. I began my dance training in my 30s. Starting so late meant that I had to sensible about how I did things. This approach is very helpful for us as we age as well. It is smart to become aware of how to do things before actually doing them. But this mental activity and discipline turns out to be a great advantage in aging. Awareness allows for greater, safer growth. On the other hand, the less conscious we are the older we feel.”
