Jill Biden is an American educator who was the second lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017. She is married to Joe Biden, the president-elect of the United States, who is set to be inaugurated on January 20, 2021, at which time she will become first lady.
Jill has bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees and taught English and reading in high schools for 13 years and taught adolescents with emotional disabilities at a psychiatric hospital.
Jill was an English and writing instructor and has been a professor of English and is thought to be the first wife of a vice president to hold a paying job during her husband’s tenure. She is the founder of the Biden Breast Health Initiative non-profit organization, co-founder of the Book Buddies program, co-founder of the Biden Foundation, is active in Delaware Boots on the Ground, and is co-founder of Joining Forces with Michelle Obama.
As Second Lady of the United States, Dr. Jill Biden worked to bring attention to the sacrifices made by military families, to highlight the importance of community colleges to America’s future, and to raise awareness around areas of particular importance to women including breast cancer prevention,
